SECTION3:
CUTANEOUS B-CELL LYMPHOMAS
CutaneousB-cell lymphomas (CBCLs) occur less frequently than cutaneous
T-cell lymphomas and account for 20%–25% of all cutaneous lymphomas.
There are 4 primary types ofCBCLs; themost common is primary cutaneous
marginal zoneB-cell lymphoma (PCMZL), followed by primary cutaneous
follicle center lymphoma (PCFCL), primary cutaneous diffuse largeB-cell
lymphoma, leg type (PCLBCL-LT), andprimary cutaneous diffuse largeB-cell
lymphoma, non-leg type (
Table3
).BothPCMZL andPCFCL are slow-
growing forms ofCBCL,with an estimated 5-year survival rate ofmore than
95%.
55
On the other hand,whilePCLBCL-LT is a rare type ofCBCL, it grows
into large tumors and ismore likely to spread to other parts of the body. It has
an estimated 5-year survival rate of approximately 59%.

Types ofCBCLs
Classification
Although a staging system forCBCLs has not beendeveloped yet, theWorld
HealthOrganization and theEuropeanOrganization forResearch and
Treatment ofCancer developed a system for classifying the 3majorCBCL
entities (PCMZL,PCFCL, andPCLBCL-LT) in aTNM system that
considers the amount of skin involvement of the tumor (T), involvement of the
lymphnodes (N), andwhether the tumor hasmetastasized (M) to involve other
lymphnodes (
Table4
).

Comprehensive lymphoma stagingwith laboratory
imaging and bonemarrow biopsy are important for determining the prognosis.
